Basic Climatic Conditions of the Territory

The basic climatic conditions on the national park territory change from the west to the east, especially due to the lower elevations above sea level. The lower-lying eastern section of the park has higher temperatures and less precipitation than the higher western areas. According to the regional climatic categorisation (Quitt 1971) a total of 4 climatic areas reach into the Podyjí NP territory.

The western part of the territory (as far as the Klaperův potok stream valley) belongs to the mildly warm region MT9. The central part of the NP lies in the mildly warm region MT11. As we move eastwards we enter the warm region T2 (up to the edge of the Dyje valley between Znojmo and the Austrian border) and the eastern fringes of the national park belong to the warm region T4.
